I can’t say I’m completely surprised. I do, however, believe that online education can be done with sound pedagogy and instructional design, although most probably isn’t. What is your opinion of online learning?

I just signed up at Stanford …. sort of! This idea seems really intriguing, and I’m excited to audit a course to see how I do. Do you think this type of learning is the way of the future?

I recently read this article on Mashable, and I think this story misses the mark on what’s really going on in classroom. First, many courses now require the digital component, which can be anything from online homework resources, to integrated course cartridge material, to virtual labs. When that is the case, it’s ALWAYS less expensive (and more valuable to the student) to go digital.
Innovative publishing companies are no longer just recreating the book as an ebook. They’re shifting the learning experience to a new level with digital resources.

Faculty should be looking for more ways to engage their students. Most classes are 1-1.5 hours, and it’s hard to keep their attention that long. QR Codes, I believe, can be great tools to do just that. Here’s an article by a Boise State professor about how to integrate QR Codes into your course.
